Native Son by Richard Wright was challenged in North Adams, Massachusetts, in 1981due to the book’s “violence, sex, and profanity.”
In 1988 it was challenged in the Hamilton High School curriculum in Fort Wayne, Indiana, because of the novel’s graphic language and sexual content.
But ask yourself, what ideas are contained in this text that protesters really did not want the students exposed to? Hmmm…
